Summer is near the end of its season finale, to the dismay of a lot of people. Here in Santa Monica, though, temperatures are still relatively warm. We're not quite ready to break out the trench coats, but we're not running around in our bathing suits, either.
So I wanted to find a movie or TV show heavy on the cardigan look, since I feel that's a great compromise. You can wear cardigans with jeans, skirts, shorts, dresses...almost anything. And this allows you to roll with the weather. And, lucky for us, there is an abundance of cute cardigans and sweaters at second-hand shops!
I landed on the 2007 movie Because I Said So, with Diane Keaton, Lauren Graham, Mandy Moore and Piper Perabo, because it has a great style palette for our transition into fall. I've never seen it, but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate the styling, right? Here are some great looks to keep in mind as you peruse the stores this weekend:
The main thing I noticed with the styling of this movie was polka dots. (You can see they're in both of Mandy's outfits, and look fabulous on the classy Diane Keaton with that beautiful black belt.) Polka dots are perhaps my favorite pattern for several reasons: they translate well into any season because they can be any color (white on navy, white on black, pink on gray, etc.); they are always going to be in style because they are classic; they're small, but they pack a big punch when it comes to creating an eye-catching outfit; and, they look great on dresses, blouses, cardigans and scarves, giving you tons of ways to incorporate them into an outfit.
I have one dress in the Parismonia store right now that would be housed permanently in my closet if it fit me. It's a beautiful vintage navy blue dress with white polka dots and a ruffle neckline. So if you're inspired by this movie and have some fabulous brown boots waiting to be exercised, check it out!
