A Santa Monica Farmers' Market Morning
Happy Saturday all! Hope you have some fun things planned for the weekend. Today will be a busy day for us. We're going to a potluck/going-away party this afternoon and later tonight the hubs and I will be selling baskets from the Turkana region of Kenya to benefit The Un[embraced], which is a nonprofit where we're both board members. The event is a monthly thing called Artist @ the Fountain, and bands donate their time and talent to put on a show, with all the proceeds benefiting a specific organization. There's food, drinks and the venue is really awesome, so if you're in Los Angeles and looking for something to do tonight, come check it out!
This morning I walked to the Santa Monica Farmers' Market with one of my former roomies, and it was glorious. I haven't been in a while, and each time I walk by stand after stand of amazing local produce, I kick myself for not making use of it more. I walked home with some beautiful burgundy dahlias that have a pink/purple tint, a cucumber and the absolute best strawberries I'm sure I'll ever have: Harry's Berries. I'm not much of the fruit person, but these are irresistible. We also each got a croissant from a local bakery stand, and I picked up a loaf of their country bread for sandwiches.
So blessed to have this in my neighborhood, and it's so great to support local farmers. Check and see if you have one in your town. If so, you know I'm gonna insist that you go and taste the difference! :)
