A Festive Fall Feast With Friends

Let's give one big cheer for alliteration! (Yay!) And let's give another big cheer for my dear friend Emily, who hosted an amazing fall feast for the Bay Street Gang this past Saturday night, full of delicious food she spent hours and hours prepping and preparing; great conversation; plenty of vino; and just all-around awesome fellowship.

It was housed at my former abode, which has a great brick patio and backyard for hosting such soirees. This past June the girls graciously let the hubs and me hold our rehearsal dinner there (see some highlights of it on the Style Notes blog!), so it will always hold a special place in my heart.

Emily scoured Santa Monica for festive decorations, and got a beautiful assortment of gourds, pumpkins and sunflowers to put on the table as a centerpiece. Some of the smaller pumpkins had taper candles in them, and tea lights were strategically placed around the table. Those lights combined with the globe lights strung across the patio gave everything an amazing glow.

Once the wine was poured, we were served the first course, which was a delicious mixed lettuce, pear and goat cheese salad with citrus dressing. All the recipes came from Cooking Light, so everything was really simple and light, but full of flavor.

Next came roasted butternut squash risotto with sugared walnuts, and it...was...amazing.

The main course was roasted chicken breast in a pinot noir sauce served with buttered green beans and mushrooms and rosemary roasted fingerling potatoes. I should also point out that most of the produce came fresh that day from the Santa Monica Farmers Market, and you could tell the difference.

I'm a vegetarian so I didn't have the chicken, but I took some photos of Scott's so you could see how great it looked. The reduced pinot noir sauce took on an amazing plum color once the butter was added and looked delicious, so I made sure to put some on my plate to dredge my veggies in.

Dessert was honey-baked Black Mission figs with orange and ginger, and I'm sorry to say I don't have a photo of it, most likely because I'd had about four glasses of wine by then, which exceeds my norm by three. :)

Thank you again, Em, for an amazing night!

And Scott, our very own walking billboard for Banana Republic, gets the best-dressed award for the night.

Hee-hee. :)
