Six Items or Less: It's Time!

So today starts Day 1 of my month-long Six Items or Less journey, and I wanted to share with you the six items I've decided will be my wardrobe for the next 30 days...

1. Charcoal gray long cardigan
2. My fav pair of jeans
3. Lilac, gray, yellow, green & pink top
4. Tan and pale pink tank
5. Black leggings
6. My fav T-shirt that says "8 heures Bicyclettes et Tricycles" {found it at a thrift store & love that it has a faceless man riding a bicycle...}

It was fairly easy for me to choose them since I run in cycles where I fall in love with about three or four outfits at a time and wear them over and over, and these happened to be what I am loving right now.

I'll be in Santa Monica for the first three weeks of the experiment, and since the weather here is anything but winter, I'm able to get by with light layering. The last week will be in Missouri though, so we'll see if these choices burn me in the end. At least I still get outerwear as part of the rules! Speaking of, in case you missed them a couple weeks ago, here they are:

"The experiment is simple: each participant gets to choose six (and only six) items of clothing and pledge to wear only these six items of a clothing for one month. They'll track their experiences and feelings at sixitemsorless.com.

Logistically, there are exceptions that don't count towards the six: undergarments, swim wear, workout clothes, work uniforms, outer wear (rain slicker, outdoor jacket), shoes and accessories. You can get multiples of the same item for laundry purposes, but different colors count as separate items."

I'm Looking Forward to This Because...

> It means I can pack up all my other clothing that's not undergarments or outerwear and be that much more ready for the move.

> I won't have to try on a million different outfits when I'm getting ready to go out, and hopefully be more punctual because of it. :)

> I'm excited to see if it's something that will be formative in my life, especially with regard to challenging me to still be creative in what I wear, but without as many options of mixing and matching.

> I hope other things will come to my attention through this with regard to consumption

Reasons I Feel It Won't Be Too Challenging...

> Since I don't have a job right now, I usually go on a walk in the morning and hang out in workout clothes at home while I do blogging & Etsy stuff, so part of me feels like I won't be as challenged as others who do have a more "out of the house" life. :)

> My weakness is and always has been accessories anyway, so the fact that I still get use of all my jewelry and shoes is a major plus.

One Thing That Will Be Difficult...

> Not getting to use other cardigans! They're my go-to pieces for changing up my looks, so using only one for a month is not a major plus.

I figure I'll check in once a week here to let you all know how things are going and what/if anything challenging has popped up that I didn't expect. Anyone else out there embarking on their first SIOL experiment? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
