Sustainable Style: Beyond Skin
I know I always say I'm excited about things on this blog, and I truly am. But I am beyond excited to have found these gorgeous ballet flats (thank you Shoestring Magazine) via Beyond Skin. And the best part is they're 100% vegan, or, as the company playfully says, "Genuinely not leather."
Based in the UK and started in 2001, the founders of Beyond Skin noticed a serious shortage of stylish cruelty free footwear (I can attest that this is usually true!), and decided to set things right. They received a serious boon when actress Natalie Portman wore their shoes at the Golden Globes, the Oscars and in the movie V for Vendetta, and now their brand has become well-known in many boutiques across the globe.
Their ballet flats (which are on super sale right now!) are handmade in India; they have a fairly traded, natural latex sole and extra latex cushioning; the uppers are made from a selection of beautiful fabrics and faux leathers; and they're lined with soft faux suede. They also make boots, high heels, sandals, even a bridal line. So be sure to stop by their website and check out all the goods!
Oh, and happy 1/11/11! ;-)
