Style Spots: Rummaging Around

Happy Monday all! How was your weekend? Good? Great? Grand? Ours was awesome, full of good weather, food, friends and gardening. We finally got our veggies planted, and now we wait to see if anything turns out.

As far as thrifting goes, well, I did a lot of it. Starting on Friday, I went to an estate sale about a mile from our place, where I found...

An aged metal piggy bank that I couldn't resist for its rustic charm...

Two white necklaces (I can tell the weather is warmer because I always start buying things in this color)...

Three more pieces of sheet music to frame...

And a blue Samsonite travel bag. I also got some neat old kitchen stuff, but you'll have to come back on Thursday for The Thrifted Kitchen to see what it is! :)

Friday night was a two-hour preview of a church rummage sale just across the river in Illinois. My friend and I packed into the hubs's work van and crossed the border with high hopes, and I was not disappointed! The prices were really, really good, and I walked away with...

Two plastic butterflies for hanging on the wall. They'll be going to the Etsy store, and I might give them an updated paint color before they do.

And a Tiffany blue Smith-Corona typewriter that's in really good condition. I have to order some tape for it to make sure everything works, but after that it'll be up for sale!

I also bought a really cute desk for my sewing nook in the Crafty Room (for $12!). It's still in the van, though, so I'll snap a photo of it once it's all set up.

Saturday I was excited because there were three church rummage sales and one estate sale happening not far from us. After the first two rummage sale, however, my spirits were low. They were really bad and I was in and out in less than two minutes. I gave up on the third rummage sale, figuring it would be like the other two (it was probably the one that was good! oh well...) and went on to the estate sale, where I found...

Two clutch purses, one an Entienne Aigner...

Another goblet to add to my eclectic collection, and a roll of vintage contact paper...

Two cast iron trivets, one a butterfly and the other an owl...

Another train case (w/ the key) that will look awesome after a little cleaning...

A cream and sugar set that's in seriously pristine condition. Usually I see these and the metal top is all crudded up (yeah, I know that's not a word)...

Prints of the Empire State Building and the Eiffel Tower in pretty white frames...

A metal kitchen cart that I'm going to refurbish (I've been looking for one of these for a while!)...

And a Collier's world atlas from 1939...

The hubs, a grand champion winner of the geography bee in fifth grade, was very excited about this purchase. I had bought it with the hope of framing some of the maps, but I don't think he's going to let that happen.

What goodies did you find this weekend? I would love to here about them, so leave a link to your post if you'd like! Also be sure and check out Thrift Share Monday, Flea Market Finds and The Penny Worthy Project!

  1. My sister had those very butterfly wall art pieces growing up. Then, a year ago I found them at a yard sale and bought them up to hang in my craft room. Too funny :) Old things that remind you of childhood really make a person feel all warm and fuzzy inside. LOL :)

  2. Ooh some great finds for you too. The typewriter is a gorgeous colour, and I love all the bags for the same reason. I like the idea of framing the sheet music - I just got a load dating from as early as 1911, but it's really quite ragged and age-spotted. I was thinking I'd use it for origami.

    Thanks for visiting my blog
