Blue Is My Favorite Color
Picture this. It's yesterday morning, I (grudgingly) roll out of bed (some mornings this is actually true) and I pop open my computer because, like most young adults in the 21st century, it's attached to me via umbilical cord. I hop onto my blog to check stats and traffic sources and, lo and behold, there are (curiously) 10 page views coming from a URL very familiar to me: www.countryliving.com.
This is when I feel my heart rate increase about ten-fold.
I click on the link and it takes me to this page, with a big banner that says "Blue Ribbon Blogger Awards."
This is when my heart rate increases about five-fold from the ten-fold (yes, I know it's not possible and that I'd most likely have died, but it's a little tool we writers like to use sometimes called "exaggeration for dramatic effect").
My eyes hungrily scan the page, looking for something that ties into my blog, and my mind was racing so hard that I completely missed it the first go-round. I started all over again at the top of the page and there it was! I had been named a finalist in the "Collecting" section!
The hubs had already gone to work, so poor Sadie was left to be the bearer of my excitement. I believe I picked her up and we spun in a couple circles while I said, "Puppy! Mommy's a finalist!"... or something like that but much more embarrassing. :)
Country Living's somewhat newish "Collecting" section in the magazine has quickly become my favorite, so, needless to say, I'm honored just to be nominated in that category. It's the one I flip to first whenever I get a new issue in the mail, because those of us who treasure hunt are masochists to some degree; we love seeing what other people have found on their thrifting/antiquing/estate sale adventures, but feel serious pangs of jealousy when we come across things that, clearly, should have been ours, even if we don't live in Portland (but wouldn't that be nice?).
Word of mouth says the judges are looking at our blogs as I write this (Hi!), and that winners will be announced next week. In the meantime, there's an online vote happening for the Readers' Choice Award, so, if you feel so inclined, and if you enjoy reading about my Style Spots each week, I'd be so grateful to have you hop over there, click on "vote" and then click on "Parsimonia" in the first category.
After that you can send some positive vibes my way and cross your fingers, too. :)
