You can also help the elephants! Elephant poaching for ivory is on the rise again, and I can't relay to you how heart-breaking that is. I've seen these beautiful, gentle animals in person when the hubs and I went on safari (see photo below), and it's so sad for them to be slain just for their tusks.


One of the groups doing a lot of good work to help save them is Save the Elephants, based in Africa and run by Dr. Iain Douglas-Hamilton, one of the world's foremost authorities on African elephants. His team works with local people in research and education to develop a conservation ethic based on local knowledge and elephant needs. They also protect and monitor elephants with aerial surveillance and radio-tracking. To learn more about their efforts, visit the Save the Elephants website.
