Style Spots: Thrift Stores Save the Day

Happy Monday, all! How was your weekend? Mine was a perfect combination of thrifting, cooking, sewing and relaxing, and I'm feeling ready to tackle this busy week!

On Saturday I woke up early and headed to three estate sales. The first one I got there an hour after it opened, and people were still lined up outside, waiting to get in. This usually means the house is small and the stuff is plentiful, so they only let in a certain amount of people at a time. And as I waited, I saw three girls my age come out with stuff I would have loved to take home: a beautiful aqua kitchen cart, an old globe and a kelly green coat with a beautiful trim. This made me more anxious to get in there, but by the time I did, all the stuff I liked was way too expensive. So I left empty-handed. The next two had barely anything to sell, and I was in and out in a couple minutes, again leaving empty-handed.

Feeling discouraged, I stopped for lunch, then went to a Goodwill and a St. Vincent de Paul store, hoping to salvage the morning, which I did. Here's what I scooped up:

A brand-new set of biscuit cutters

A set of stainless steel sieves

A floral fiberglass serving platter

A camel Samsonite travel bag

The cutest little girl's wool coat I've ever seen

A Fire King jadeite divided plate

Some sweet mustard pumps

A roll of vintage fabric

And one more roll...

And a yellow lace tablecloth

How about you? Any good finds this weekend?

Gosh though, I COULD NOT handle waiting in a queue watching people leave with things that had my name on them!
Have been jealous of estate sales until I read this :)

    1. It IS pretty tough when that happens! Usually I try to get there a bit after they open to avoid the mad rush that ensues. But I still love them. It's where I find my best stuff!

  3. I love the rolls of fabric. Both would be great in the patchwork curtains I'm making for my 1970s styled kitchen.

  4. Oooh, love that jadeite dish, I haven't been lucky enough to find any of that yet. That wee coat is just awesome too!

    1. Up until this weekend it was the same for me! I have a fake jadeite reamer/juicer, but this plate is my first real piece. Too bad it's kind of weird, lol.

  5. I love the child coat! I love vintage too but with a broken foot now, I can't shop 'til I drop.

  6. We definitely thrift in the same circles; I've picked up that little coat twice lately, smitten, but I put it back down because it wasn't perfect and I can't sew, so I'm very happy to see that someone who can has taken it home to give it the love it deserves. I picked up an orange plastic-beaded flowerpot-hanger thingy and a couple of paisley aprons there instead.

    1. Seriously! That is so funny! We've probably seen each other at the same thrifts and didn't even know it! :) I popped over to your blog and see you're opening a booth in Kenrick? Which space is going to be yours?

    2. I'm sure if we haven't seen each other out thrifting before, we're bound to eventually! I'll be booth #78 at Kenrick starting on February 11th. I will definitely be posting about the experience and sharing how it goes - good or bad. Have you always done your main selling online? I tried to get myself to do Etsy, but I was too intimidated by all the details to ever actually do it.
